Morrisonville Palmer Food Pantry
The Morrisonville Palmer Food Pantry was
established on October 23, 1985 for the purpose of assisting the
low-income families of the Morrisonville School District. It is
sponsored by the three churches, Methodist, Presbyterian and St.
Maurice Catholic. The ministers are the advisors. The three
churches have been paying the rent and power bills until this
year when
it was paid by the Christian County United Way.
We use the government guidelines as proof of eligibility. The food is purchased from the Central Illinois Food Bank in Springfield with money donated by Organizations and individuals. We pay .14 cents a pound for most
of the food as it is donated to the food bank. Krogers gives us day old bread each week. The Palmer Odd Fellow Lodge has been going to Springfield to pick up the food for us.
We are open from 2:30 to 3:30 each Thursday
afternoon at 309 Sixth Street. Rick and Debbie Cruse go each week
to pick up the bread at Kroger. We serve about 20 families each
week. Some children, some Senior Citizens. The Cub and Boy Scouts
gather food for the pantry each March. They bring us from 800 to
1,000 pounds each year. Ladies of the churches staff the pantry.
Each Christmas the Methodist Church gives each family a turkey.
The director of the Morrisonville Palmer Food
Pantry is Mary Moffitt.
